Purpose:
The purpose of the Beowulf Cluster system is to provide a hands-on platform to teach parallel programming courses and to enable cost effective, exceptional computing power to computational scientists and researchers at Ball State University.

Recycled computer parts that are available, but are not being used, and donations from interested parties will be put to use in a cluster system. The end result will provide a starting point for campus community members to begin computing complex algorithms and for faculty to build courses focusing on this fast growing interest.

The Beowulf Cluster is a multi-faceted project that will provide students with the opportunity to design a private network, experiment with hardware and networking components, use of applications for allowing processor speed to be used in parallel, and plan for stability, reliability, and integrity now and in the future.

Objectives:
1.  Provide a unique and enjoyable educational experience for Ball State students in technology-related majors.
2.  To Provide a tool for University faculty and student research hardware, software, and business application areas.
3.  To provide the greater technology-community with a consolidated source of information on cluster computing.

The short-term goals set in each phase of the project are designed to work toward the accomplishment of these objectives.
